What is the standard vanity light height?
The standard vanity light mounts 78 inches above the floor — 198.12 cm — roughly eye level for an average adult, so the light falls on the face instead of over the head or under the chin. 78 inches is the midpoint of the widely used 75–80 inch mounting range — low enough to light the face, high enough to clear the mirror. The light itself is usually a bar or a pair of sconces above the mirror — mounted at 78 inches, the bottom of the fixture clears the top of a standard mirror and the top stays below the ceiling in a standard 96-inch room.
Three things about the model are worth stating plainly.
First, the centimetres are inches × 2.54 — 78 × 2.54 = 198.12 cm. Second, the bands are closed at both ends: low vanity light 66–72 inches, standard vanity light 75–80 inches, high vanity light 83–88 inches — so 72 inches is a low vanity light, 80 inches is a standard vanity light and 88 inches is a high vanity light. And third, heights of 73–74 inches, 81–82 inches, below 66 inches and above 88 inches match NO standard vanity-light type — too tall for one band, too short for the next, or outside the bands entirely; all listed in Accuracy & limitations.
The worked example, line by line
Setup: 78 inches, above the floor.
Line 1 — the centimetres. The centimetres are 78 × 2.54 = 198.12 cm.
Line 2 — the band. 78 inches falls in the standard band (75–80 inches) — so the height matches a standard vanity light.
Line 3 — the check. 78 inches is the midpoint of the 75–80 inch range — (75 + 80) ÷ 2 = 77.5, rounded to the nearest whole inch, 78.
Every branch, checked
66 in: 66 in = 167.64 cm; matches low vanity light (1 type) — At 66 inches the light is 167.64 cm high — a low vanity light, for a child’s bathroom or a shorter household.
72 in: 72 in = 182.88 cm; matches low vanity light (1 type) — At 72 inches the light is 182.88 cm high — the tallest low vanity light.
75 in: 75 in = 190.50 cm; matches standard vanity light (1 type) — At 75 inches the light is 190.50 cm high — the shortest standard vanity light.
80 in: 80 in = 203.20 cm; matches standard vanity light (1 type) — At 80 inches the light is 203.20 cm high — the tallest standard vanity light.

A warning about the neighbours: every neighbour above sits one hundredth of an inch from the star — and every neighbour displays as the target when rounded to two decimals, yet sits below or above it. The reverses have exact closed forms: the height for a cm target is the target divided by 2.54, and the height for a band edge is the edge itself. The page prints the unrounded centimetres in full so the rounding does not mislead you: 199.9996, 200.025, 200.0504, 209.9818, 210.0072, 189.992, 190.0174, 190.0428, 219.9894 and 220.0148.

Accuracy & limitations
The math is first-principles: the centimetres are inches times 2.54; the bands are closed at both ends — low vanity light 66–72 inches, standard vanity light 75–80 inches, high vanity light 83–88 inches — and a height between the bands or outside them matches no standard type — all in whole inches and hundredths, the centimetres displayed to two decimals half-up. The standard band is the widely used 75–80 inch mounting range, and 78 inches is its midpoint — (75 + 80) ÷ 2 = 77.5, rounded to the nearest whole inch. At 74 inches the height is 187.96 cm — no standard type — too tall for the low band, too short for the standard band. At 82 inches the height is 208.28 cm — no standard type — too tall for the standard band, too short for the high band. At 78.74 inches the height is 199.9996 cm — it displays as 200.00 cm but is below 200.00 cm — and the page prints the unrounded figure. At −5 inches the height is floored at 0 — 0.00 cm, no standard type — a negative mounting height is not a real height. What the model cannot do is judge the light: it says nothing about the fixture size, whether the light glares, whether sconces on either side beat a bar above, or the height of the mirror below it. Measure from the floor, not from the vanity top, because vanity heights vary — a 36-inch vanity and a 32-inch vanity move the light by 4 inches if you measure from the top. Leave the light above the mirror: the bottom of the fixture must clear the top of the mirror, and the top must clear the ceiling in a standard room. Use it to find the right height above the floor — then check it against the mirror and the ceiling.

Frequently asked questions
What is the standard vanity light height?
78 inches above the floor — 198.12 cm. Standard vanity lights run 75–80 inches, and 78 inches is the midpoint of that range.
How high should a vanity light be above the floor?
75–80 inches for a standard vanity light. 78 inches is the standard height — roughly eye level for an average adult, so the light falls on the face.
What is 78 inches in cm?
198.12 cm. 78 × 2.54 = 198.12 cm.
What if my vanity light is 74 inches high?
It matches no standard type. 74 inches is 187.96 cm — too tall for the low band (66–72 inches) and too short for the standard band (75–80 inches).
How do I convert inches to cm?
Multiply by 2.54. 78 × 2.54 = 198.12 cm.
What height is too high for a vanity light?
Above 88 inches. 88 inches is 223.52 cm — the tallest high vanity light — and anything above it matches no standard type.
Does the mirror height change the light height?
No — measure from the floor. The light height is measured from the floor, not from the vanity top or the mirror, because vanity heights vary.
What about sconces on either side?
The same height applies. Sconces on either side of the mirror mount at the same 75–80 inch standard height — eye level, so the light falls on the face.
