What is the standard medicine cabinet height?
The standard medicine cabinet mounts with its bottom edge 54 inches above the floor — 137.16 cm — roughly eye level for an average adult, so the middle of the cabinet lands near 60 inches and the top near 72–78 inches. The cabinet itself is usually 24–36 inches tall, so a standard cabinet mounted at 54 inches tops out around 78–84 inches — high enough to clear the tallest user, low enough to reach the top shelf without a stool.
Three things about the model are worth stating plainly.
First, the centimetres are inches × 2.54 — 54 × 2.54 = 137.16 cm. Second, the bands are closed at both ends: low medicine cabinet 48–52 inches, standard medicine cabinet 54–58 inches, high medicine cabinet 60–64 inches — so 52 inches is a low medicine cabinet, 58 inches is a standard medicine cabinet and 64 inches is a high medicine cabinet. And third, heights of 53 inches, 59 inches, 65 inches, below 48 inches and above 64 inches match NO standard medicine-cabinet type — too tall for one band, too short for the next, or outside the bands entirely; all listed in Accuracy & limitations.
The worked example, line by line
Setup: 54 inches, bottom edge above the floor.
Line 1 — the centimetres. The centimetres are 54 × 2.54 = 137.16 cm.
Line 2 — the band. 54 inches falls in the standard band (54–58 inches) — it matches a standard medicine cabinet.
Line 3 — the check. 53.99 inches is 137.13 cm (unrounded 137.1346 cm) — below the 54-inch line — and matches no standard type at all.
Line 4 — the check. 60 inches is 152.40 cm — the smallest height to match a high medicine cabinet — and at 59.99 inches the figure is 152.37 cm (unrounded 152.3746 cm) and matches no standard type at all.
Line 5 — the check. 64 inches is 162.56 cm — the tallest high medicine cabinet — and 66 inches is 167.64 cm, above the high band, matching no standard type.

A warning about the neighbours: every neighbour above sits one hundredth of an inch from the star, and every neighbour displays as the target when rounded to two decimals, yet sits below or above it. The centimetre figure is displayed to two decimals, half-up. The page prints the unrounded centimetre figures so the rounding does not mislead you: 130.0226, 129.9972, 139.9794, 140.0048, 137.1346, 150.0124, 149.9870, 159.9946 and 152.3746. One value needs no parenthetical: at 63.00 in the figure is 160.02 cm exactly, so no unrounded value is printed for it.

Who uses this
- The homeowner mounting a new cabinet: they learn 54 inches is 137.16 cm and a standard medicine cabinet — and they check the 51.19 reverse to see the height that reaches 130.00 cm.
- The parent fitting a child’s bathroom: they learn a low medicine cabinet is 48–52 inches to the bottom edge — and they check the 60.00 reverse to see the height that matches a high medicine cabinet.
- The tall household: they learn a high medicine cabinet is 60–64 inches to the bottom edge — and they check the 62.99 reverse to see the largest height that stays at or below 160.00 cm.
- The remodeler measuring from the floor: they learn to measure from the floor, not the vanity top, because vanity heights vary — and they check the 55.11 reverse to see the largest height that stays at or below 140.00 cm.
Accuracy & limitations
The math is first-principles: centimetres = inches × 2.54, displayed to two decimals half-up; the bands are closed at both ends — low medicine cabinet 48–52 inches, standard medicine cabinet 54–58 inches, high medicine cabinet 60–64 inches — so 52 inches is a low medicine cabinet, 58 inches is a standard medicine cabinet and 64 inches is a high medicine cabinet. Heights of 53 inches, 59 inches, 65 inches, below 48 inches and above 64 inches match no standard medicine-cabinet type: too tall for one band, too short for the next, or outside the bands entirely — the table and the reverses say so, they never force a height into a type. The height in inches is floored at 0 — a negative height input shows 0.00 cm and no matching type, never a negative number. At 0 inches the figure is 0.00 cm and matches no standard type. At 51.19 inches the figure is 130.02 cm (unrounded 130.0226 cm) and matches a low medicine cabinet — 51.19 inches falls inside the low band. At 55.12 inches the figure is 140.00 cm (unrounded 140.0048 cm) — displays 140.00 cm but is above 140.00 cm. At 51.18 inches the figure is 130.00 cm (unrounded 129.9972 cm) — displays 130.00 cm but is below 130.00 cm. What the model cannot do is judge the fitting: it says nothing about the stud spacing (16 inches is standard) for a recessed cabinet, the door swing against the lights and sconces for a surface-mounted cabinet, or the clearance above the faucet and the splash — the door must open without hitting the faucet handles, and the bottom edge must clear the tallest bottle on the vanity. For an accessible bathroom, the forward reach range is 15–48 inches — mount the bottom edge lower and keep the everyday items on the lowest shelf. Measure from the floor, not from the vanity top, because vanity heights vary — a 36-inch vanity and a 32-inch vanity move the cabinet by 4 inches if you measure from the top. Use it to find the right band — then check the wall, the door swing and the faucet before you buy.

Frequently asked questions
What is the standard medicine cabinet height?
54 inches — 137.16 cm. A standard medicine cabinet mounts with its bottom edge 54 inches above the floor — roughly eye level for an average adult — so the middle of the cabinet lands near 60 inches and the top near 72–78 inches.
How do I convert medicine cabinet height from inches to centimetres?
Multiply the inches by 2.54. 54 inches × 2.54 = 137.16 cm. 48 inches × 2.54 = 121.92 cm. 64 inches × 2.54 = 162.56 cm.
What height matches a low medicine cabinet?
48–52 inches to the bottom edge. A low medicine cabinet suits a child’s bathroom, a shorter household, or an accessible bath — and 52 inches is the tallest low medicine cabinet.
What height matches a high medicine cabinet?
60–64 inches to the bottom edge. A high medicine cabinet suits a tall household or a tall vanity — and 64 inches is the tallest high medicine cabinet.
What height matches no standard medicine cabinet type?
53 inches, 59 inches, 65 inches, below 48 inches and above 64 inches. The ranges are closed — 48–52, 54–58 and 60–64 inches — so a height of 53 inches matches no standard type.
Why does 51.18 inches show 130.00 cm when it is below 130.00 cm?
Because the unrounded height is 129.9972 cm. 51.18 inches × 2.54 = 129.9972 cm, which rounds half-up to 130.00 cm — but it is still below the 130.00 cm line. The page prints the unrounded value so the rounding does not mislead you.
Why does 55.12 inches show 140.00 cm when it is above 140.00 cm?
Because the unrounded height is 140.0048 cm. 55.12 inches × 2.54 = 140.0048 cm, which rounds half-up to 140.00 cm — but it is still above the 140.00 cm line. The page prints the unrounded value so the rounding does not mislead you.
Should I measure from the floor or the vanity top?
From the floor. Vanity heights vary — a 36-inch vanity and a 32-inch vanity move the cabinet by 4 inches if you measure from the top.
