Gazebo siding calculator
Put your gazebo diameter, wall height and waste in: a 12 ft round gazebo with 7 ft walls is 37.7 ft around, 263.9 sq ft of wall — 8.25 sheets exact, 10 sheets with 10% waste at 32 sq ft a sheet.
★ CONSTRUCTION · OUTDOOR · GAZEBOS
On the defaults — a 12 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 10% waste — you need 10 sheets of siding. This is the gazebo siding tool: measure around once, allow for the post cuts, and buy the sheets once — a half-sided gazebo waits for no second delivery.
Put your gazebo diameter, wall height and waste in: a 12 ft round gazebo with 7 ft walls is 37.7 ft around, 263.9 sq ft of wall — 8.25 sheets exact, 10 sheets with 10% waste at 32 sq ft a sheet.
It means ten sheets side a 12 ft round gazebo with 7 ft walls, with room for cuts. The walls themselves are 263.9 square feet, since pi times the 12 ft diameter is 37.7 ft around, times 7 ft of height is 263.9; one 4 ft by 8 ft sheet covers 32 square feet, so the exact need is 8.25 sheets, and with 10% waste for post and angled cuts that becomes 9.08, rounded up to 10 whole sheets because sheets are sold by the sheet, not by the fraction. The spare sheet is not spare stock exactly — it is the sheet the posts and the angled cuts consume, so a gazebo sided to the exact sheet runs short before the last wall.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Distance around | pi × diameter | 37.7 ft — 3.14159 × 12. |
| Wall area | distance around × height | 263.9 sq ft — 37.7 × 7. |
| Sheets | wall area ÷ sheet area, plus waste, rounded up | 10 sheets — 8.25 × 1.10, rounded up. |
First, check the sheet size you are actually buying: 4 ft by 8 ft is the common siding sheet, but a smaller sheet covers less wall each and raises this gazebo past 10 sheets, while the wall area never changes. Second, remember the count follows the walls, not the floor: a 12 ft round gazebo is 113.1 sq ft of floor but 263.9 sq ft of wall, and a gazebo measured by its floor under-orders badly. Third, judge the waste honestly: a plain round gazebo fits 10%, but a gazebo with many posts and angled cuts can want 15%, since every angle takes a cut. Trim, roofing and the floor are bought separately — see the gazebo cost calculator for the whole gazebo priced out.
12 ft diameter, 7 ft walls, 10% waste. Distance around: 3.14159 × 12 = 37.7 ft. Wall area: 37.7 × 7 = 263.9 sq ft. Sheet area: 4 × 8 = 32 sq ft. Sheets exact: 263.9 ÷ 32 = 8.25. With waste: 8.25 × 1.10 = 9.08, rounded up to 10 sheets. In practice that means buying 10 sheets, and expecting the last one to go on post and angled cuts. If the same gazebo had 8 ft walls instead, the need would rise to 11 sheets, but the gazebo sided would be identical in footprint.
With a 14 ft wide gazebo instead of 12 ft, the distance around rises to 43.98 ft, the wall area to 307.86 sq ft and the need to 11 sheets. With 8 ft walls, the wall area rises to 301.6 sq ft and the need to 11 sheets. With 5% waste, the exact need stays 8.25 sheets but the buy falls to 9 sheets, since 8.25 × 1.05 is 8.66 and still rounds up to 9. With 15% waste, the buy stays 10 sheets, since 8.25 × 1.15 is 9.49 and still rounds up to 10. Gazebo size, wall height and waste each move the order on their own, so a wrong height figure is as costly as a wrong measurement.
The diameter behind 10 sheets is 12 ft: at 10 ft the need is 8 sheets (10 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 31.42 ft around, 219.94 sq ft, 6.87 sheets exact, 10% waste); at 14 ft it is 11 sheets (14 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 43.98 ft around, 307.86 sq ft, 9.62 sheets exact, 10% waste). The height behind 10 sheets is 7 ft: at 6 ft the need is 8 sheets (12 ft round gazebo, 6 ft walls, 37.7 ft around, 226.2 sq ft, 7.07 sheets exact, 10% waste); at 8 ft it is 11 sheets (12 ft round gazebo, 8 ft walls, 37.7 ft around, 301.6 sq ft, 9.43 sheets exact, 10% waste). The waste behind 10 sheets is 10%: at 5% the need is 9 sheets (12 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 37.7 ft around, 263.9 sq ft, 8.25 sheets exact, 5% waste); at 15% it is 10 sheets (12 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 37.7 ft around, 263.9 sq ft, 8.25 sheets exact, 15% waste). Each reverse moves one input and holds the rest, so the step is exactly one dimension, height or waste change.
The defaults assume a 12 ft round gazebo, 7 ft walls, 4 ft by 8 ft sheets, and 10% waste for cuts and posts. They do not assume trim, roofing, screens or a floor — a gazebo with screens counts its screens separately, and the roof is bought by the roof, not by the sheet.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the wall height and the waste. Real gazebos have posts, screens and angled cuts, and the sheet on the pallet overrides any planning figure; a gazebo measured gross over-orders, and a waste figure read off a plain round gazebo under-orders one with many posts. Treat 10 sheets as the planning order for a 12 ft round gazebo at 7 ft walls and 10% waste, and allow 15% for a gazebo cut with many posts.

10 sheets at 7 ft walls and 10% waste. The wall area is 263.9 sq ft; at 32 sq ft per sheet that is 8.25 sheets exact, and 8.25 × 1.10 = 9.08, rounded up to 10.
Multiply pi by the diameter for the distance around, multiply by the wall height for the wall area, divide by the sheet area, add the waste and round up. A 12 ft round gazebo at 7 ft is 37.7 × 7 = 263.9 sq ft, or 10 sheets at 10% waste.
10% for a plain round gazebo, 15% for one with many posts and angled cuts. Every angle takes a cut, so the waste moves the order directly.
No — this calculator counts siding sheets only. Trim, roofing, screens and the floor are counted separately, by the gazebo.
Round up: sheets are sold by the sheet, and the spare sheet is the cutting stock. A gazebo sided to the exact sheet runs short before the last wall.
Work out each wall separately, add the wall areas, and divide by the sheet area. The square footage calculator handles the area step wall by wall.
