On the defaults — 2 sets at $25 a set a day for 2 days plus $15 trail passes — cross-country ski rental costs $130.00 in all, $100 rental, $65.00 a set. This is the cross-country ski rental cost tool: sets times price a set a day times days is the rental, sets times trail pass is the passes, and rental plus passes is the total — a rental price tells you nothing until the sets, the days and the trail pass are counted.
Put your sets, price a set a day, days and trail pass in: 2 sets at $25 a set a day for 2 days plus $15 trail passes costs $130.00 in all — $100 rental.
It means 2 sets of cross-country gear hired at $25.00 a set a day for 2 days plus $15.00 trail passes a set cost one hundred and thirty dollars in all, which is $100.00 for the rental itself, $30.00 for the passes, and $65.00 a set. The sets count sets how many skiers hire gear, the daily price sets how dear each set is per day, the days set how long the hire runs, and the trail pass is added per set on top: one more set adds $65.00 at the default price, days and pass, while a dearer trail pass lifts the total without touching the rental maths at all. The only judgement is the daily price itself — classic skis, skate skis and a premium package are not the same hire, and the price actually charged for the set you hire is the only honest source for it.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rental | sets × price a set a day × days | $100.00 — 2 × $25.00 × 2. |
| Trail passes | sets × trail pass a set | $30.00 — 2 × $15.00. |
| Total | rental + trail passes | $130.00 — $100.00 + $30.00. |
| Per set | total ÷ sets | $65.00 — $130.00 ÷ 2. |
| Per day | total ÷ days | $65.00 — $130.00 ÷ 2. |
First, check the sets honestly: 2 sets must be skiers actually hiring, not skiers invited who stay home — a set counted who never skis adds $65.00 that was never spent. Second, check the daily price against the hire shop: $25.00 must be the price actually charged for that set, not the cheapest classic package on the board — a skate package costs more per day, and a premium package costs more again, so the wrong package breaks the total. Third, check the trail pass against the trails: $15.00 must be the pass for a skier who needs one, not a skier with a season pass — a season pass means $0 trail pass for that skier — and the pass is charged per set, not per day, because most trails sell it per visit, not per day of hire.
2 sets, $25.00 a set a day, 2 days, $15.00 trail pass a set. Rental: 2 × $25.00 × 2 = $100.00. Trail passes: 2 × $15.00 = $30.00. Total: $100.00 + $30.00 = $130.00. Per set: $130.00 ÷ 2 = $65.00. Per day: $130.00 ÷ 2 = $65.00. In practice that means a cross-country weekend costs about sixty-five dollars a set all-in, and the $100.00 rental figure is the one to set against other hire shops, since trail passes are priced differently everywhere.
At 1 set instead of 2, the total falls to $65.00 — $50.00 rental, $15.00 trail passes, $65.00 a set, $32.50 a day. At 4 sets instead of 2, the total rises to $260.00 — $200.00 rental, $60.00 trail passes, $65.00 a set, $130.00 a day. At 4 days instead of 2, the total rises to $230.00 — $200.00 rental, $30.00 trail passes, $115.00 a set, $57.50 a day. At $35.00 a set a day instead of $25.00, the total rises to $170.00 — $140.00 rental, $30.00 trail passes, $85.00 a set, $85.00 a day.
The sets behind $130.00 are 2: at 1 set the total is $65.00; at 4 sets it is $260.00. The days behind $130.00 are 2: at 1 day the total is $80.00; at 4 days it is $230.00 — the days never touch the trail passes, only how long the hire runs.
The defaults assume 2 sets, $25.00 a set a day, 2 days, and $15.00 trail pass a set, for one cross-country outing with one trail visit per skier. They do not assume lessons, waxing, transport, food, or a second trail visit — so treat $130.00 as the planning cost for 2 sets at $25.00 a set a day for 2 days plus $15.00 trail passes, and check it against the hire shop price list actually charged before budgeting it as exact.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the sets actually hiring, the true daily price for that package, the days the hire truly runs, and whether each skier really needs a trail pass. Real hire shops vary with package, season and pass rules — so treat $130.00 as the planning cost for 2 sets at $25.00 a set a day for 2 days plus $15.00 trail passes, and check it against the hire shop price list before budgeting it as exact.

Students and researchers: cite the calculator name, the page URL and the date you used it, and quote the defaults (2 sets, $25 a set a day, 2 days, $15 trail pass a set) so the result can be checked.
$130.00 in all on the defaults: 2 sets at $25 a set a day for 2 days plus $15 trail passes.
$65.00 a set on the defaults: $130.00 ÷ 2 sets.
Per set in this calculator: the $15.00 pass is added once per set, not multiplied by the days.
Because the one-off trail passes spread thinner: 4 days cost $57.50 a day, while 1 day costs $80.00 a day.
A cheaper package or a season pass: a $25 set for 1 day with no pass costs $50.00 for the rental alone.
No: set the trail pass to $0 for a skier with a season pass — the calculator then counts passes only for those who need one.
