On the defaults — 2 pairs at $30 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10 helmets each — ski boot rental costs $200.00 in all, $180 rental, $100 a pair. This is the ski boot rental cost tool: pairs times the price a pair a day times the days is the rental, pairs times the helmet is the helmets, and rental plus helmets is the total — a hire shop price tells you nothing until the pairs and the days are counted.
Put your pairs, price a pair a day, days and helmet in: 2 pairs at $30 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10 helmets each costs $200.00 in all — $180 rental.
It means 2 pairs of ski boots at $30.00 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10.00 helmets a pair cost two hundred dollars in all, which is $180.00 for the boot rental itself, $20.00 for helmets, $100.00 a pair, and $66.67 a day. The pairs count sets how many boots are hired, the price a pair a day sets how dear each pair is per day, the days set how many days each pair is hired for, and the helmet is added per pair on top: one more pair adds $100.00 at the default price and days, and one more day adds $60.00 for the two pairs at the default price. The only judgement is the price a pair a day itself — a standard boot and a performance boot are not the same hire, and the price actually charged for the boot hired is the only honest source for it.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rental | pairs × price a pair a day × days | $180.00 — 2 × $30.00 × 3. |
| Helmets | pairs × helmet a pair | $20.00 — 2 × $10.00. |
| Total | rental + helmets | $200.00 — $180.00 + $20.00. |
| Per pair | total ÷ pairs | $100.00 — $200.00 ÷ 2. |
| Per day | total ÷ days | $66.67 — $200.00 ÷ 3. |
First, check the pairs honestly: 2 pairs must be pairs actually hired, not pairs in the group who bring their own boots — a pair counted that was never hired adds $100.00 that was never spent. Second, check the price a pair a day against the hire shop: $30.00 must be the price actually charged for that boot, not the cheapest boot on the rack — a performance boot costs more per day, and a multi-day discount lowers the daily price, so the wrong boot or the wrong discount breaks the total. Third, check the days and the helmets against the trip: 3 days must be days actually hired, counting any part-day the shop charges as a full day, and $10.00 must be the helmet for a skier who hires one, not a skier bringing their own — own helmets mean $0 helmet for that skier.
2 pairs, $30.00 a pair a day, 3 days, $10.00 helmet a pair. Rental: 2 × $30.00 × 3 = $180.00. Helmets: 2 × $10.00 = $20.00. Total: $180.00 + $20.00 = $200.00. Per pair: $200.00 ÷ 2 = $100.00. Per day: $200.00 ÷ 3 = $66.67. In practice that means a short ski trip costs one hundred dollars a pair all-in for boots and helmets, and the $180.00 rental figure is the one to set against other hire shops, since helmet pricing varies everywhere.
At 1 pair instead of 2, the total falls to $100.00 — $90.00 rental, $10.00 helmets, $100.00 a pair, $33.33 a day. At 4 pairs instead of 2, the total rises to $400.00 — $360.00 rental, $40.00 helmets, $100.00 a pair, $133.33 a day. At 5 days instead of 3, the total rises to $320.00 — $300.00 rental, $20.00 helmets, $160.00 a pair, $64.00 a day. At $40.00 a pair a day instead of $30.00, the total rises to $260.00 — $240.00 rental, $20.00 helmets, $130.00 a pair, $86.67 a day.
The pairs behind $200.00 are 2: at 1 pair the total is $100.00; at 4 pairs it is $400.00. The days behind $200.00 are 3: at 2 days the total is $140.00; at 5 days it is $320.00 — the days never touch the helmets, only how long each pair is hired for.
The defaults assume 2 pairs, $30.00 a pair a day, 3 full days, and $10.00 helmet a pair, for one ski trip with boots and helmets hired together. They do not assume skis, poles, lift passes, lessons, or a multi-day discount — so treat $200.00 as the planning cost for 2 pairs at $30.00 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10.00 helmets each, and check it against the hire shop bill actually paid before budgeting it as exact.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the pairs actually hired, the true price a pair a day for that boot, the days actually charged including part-days, and who really hires a helmet. Real hire shops vary with boot type, multi-day discounts and helmet pricing — so treat $200.00 as the planning cost for 2 pairs at $30.00 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10.00 helmets each, and check it against the hire shop bill before budgeting it as exact.
Bright Side Kit, “Ski Boot Rental Cost: 2 Pairs, 3 Days, $200.00 Total”, https://brightoolbox.com/ski-boot-rental-cost-calculator/, accessed 3 November 2026. Students and researchers: cite the calculator name, the page URL and the date you used it, and quote the defaults (2 pairs, $30 a pair a day, 3 days, $10 helmet a pair) so the result can be checked.
$200.00 in all on the defaults: 2 pairs at $30 a pair a day for 3 days plus $10 helmets each.
$100.00 a pair on the defaults: $200.00 ÷ 2 pairs.
$66.67 a day on the defaults: $200.00 ÷ 3 days.
As a separate line here: $20.00 for 2 helmets at $10 a pair, added to the $180.00 boot rental.
Slightly, because helmets are one-off: 5 days cost $64.00 a day, while 3 days cost $66.67 a day.
Set the helmet to $0: the total falls to $180.00 for 2 pairs over 3 days.
