On the defaults — 2 pairs at $25 a pair a day for 3 days plus $15 poles hire — snowshoe rental costs $165 in all, $82.50 a pair. This is the snowshoe rental tool: pairs times the rate times the days is the rental, and rental plus poles is the bill — a pair count alone tells you nothing until the daily rate and the length of the hire are known.
Put your pairs, rate a pair a day, days and poles hire in: 2 pairs at $25 a pair a day for 3 days plus $15 poles costs $165 — $82.50 a pair.
It means hiring 2 pairs of snowshoes at $25 a pair a day for 3 days plus $15 poles hire costs one hundred and sixty-five dollars, which is $82.50 a pair and $55.00 a day. The pairs set how many people are kitted out, the rate sets how dear each pair is a day, the days set how long the hire runs, and the poles sit on top once: one more day adds $50 at the default pairs and rate, and dearer hire lifts the total without touching the pair count at all. The only judgement is the rate itself — resort hire, trail-centre hire and multi-day discounts are not the same price, and the rate actually charged is the only honest source for it.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rental | pairs × rate a pair a day × days | $150.00 — 2 × $25.00 × 3. |
| Trip total | rental + poles hire | $165.00 — $150.00 + $15.00. |
| Per pair | trip total ÷ pairs | $82.50 — $165.00 ÷ 2. |
| Per day | trip total ÷ days | $55.00 — $165.00 ÷ 3. |
First, check the pairs honestly: 2 pairs must be pairs actually hired, not people on the trip who brought their own — a pair counted that was never hired adds $75 over 3 days that was never spent. Second, check the rate against the hire actually booked: $25 must be the rate for that snowshoe size and that centre, not the cheapest rate on the board — adult and child rates differ, and a multi-day discount changes the daily figure. Third, check the days against the hire actually kept: 3 days must be days the snowshoes were out, not days the trip lasted — a day the hire sat unused in the cabin is still a hired day, and a day returned early may not be.
2 pairs, $25 a pair a day, 3 days, $15 poles. Rental: 2 × $25.00 × 3 = $150.00. Trip total: $150.00 + $15.00 = $165.00. Per pair: $165.00 ÷ 2 = $82.50. Per day: $165.00 ÷ 3 = $55.00. In practice that means a three-day snowshoe hire for two costs about one hundred and sixty-five dollars, and the $82.50-a-pair figure is the one to set against buying, since a pair is the unit every hire-versus-buy comparison shares.
At 2 days instead of 3, the total falls to $115.00 — $100.00 rental, $57.50 a pair, $57.50 a day. At 4 days instead of 3, the total rises to $215.00 — $200.00 rental, $107.50 a pair, $53.75 a day. At $30 a pair a day instead of $25, the total rises to $195.00 — $180.00 rental, $97.50 a pair, $65.00 a day. At $30 poles instead of $15, the total rises to $180.00 — $150.00 rental, $90.00 a pair, $60.00 a day.
The days behind $165.00 are 3: at 2 days the total is $115.00; at 4 days it is $215.00. The rate behind $165.00 is $25.00 a pair a day: at $20.00 a pair a day the total is $135.00; at $30.00 a pair a day it is $195.00 — the rate never touches the pair count, only how dear each pair is a day.
The defaults assume 2 pairs, $25 a pair a day, 3 days, and $15 poles, for one hire from one centre. They do not assume lift passes, trail fees, damage cover, or boots — so treat $165.00 as the planning cost for 2 pairs at $25 a pair a day for 3 days plus $15 poles, and check it against the hire shop bill before budgeting it as exact.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the pairs actually hired, the true rate for that centre and size, the true days kept, and the poles hire. Real hires vary with discounts and late returns — so treat $165.00 as the planning cost for 2 pairs at $25 a pair a day for 3 days plus $15 poles, and check it against the hire shop bill before budgeting it as exact.
