350°F converts to exactly 176.67°C — but the recipe chart says 180°C, gas mark 4. A recipe that says 180°C means 350°F, even though 350°F converts exactly to 176.67°C. Enter a Fahrenheit temperature to get the exact conversion, the chart value, the gas mark and the fan-oven setting.
Convert oven temperatures between Fahrenheit, Celsius and gas mark — exact conversions plus the full 12-row chart from 225°F to 500°F for baking and roasting.
350°F converts exactly to 176.67°C — (350 − 32) × 5/9 — but no printed recipe says 176.67°C. Recipes round to the nearest 10°C, so the chart says 180°C, gas mark 4. That is the whole point of this page: it shows you both, so you never wonder why the maths and the recipe disagree. On the defaults — 350°F — the exact conversion is 176.67°C, the chart value is 180°C, the gas mark is 4, the nearest row is 350°F / 180°C / Gas 4 — standard baking and the fan-oven setting is 160°C (320°F).

Every exact-°C cell is (F − 32) × 5/9 to 2dp, half-up — derived from the Fahrenheit value, never hand-typed. The chart °C column is the conventional value printed recipes use, rounded to the nearest 10°C. At the defaults — 350°F — the exact conversion is 176.67°C, the chart value is 180°C, the gas mark is 4 and the fan-oven setting is 160°C (320°F). Check the identities: exact °C = (F − 32) × 5/9; gas mark = the nearest table row by |F − row F|; fan-oven °C = chart °C − 20; fan-oven °F = fan °C × 9/5 + 32. Rounding convention: totals are computed from unrounded values, so rounded parts may differ by a cent from their rounded sum.

Setup: 350°F.
Line 1 — the exact conversion. (350 − 32) × 5/9 = 318 × 5/9 = 176.67°C.
Line 2 — the chart value. The nearest table row to 350°F is the 350°F row itself, whose chart value is 180°C and whose gas mark is 4 — standard baking.
Line 3 — the fan-oven setting. Fan ovens run about 20°C cooler than the chart, so the setting is 180 − 20 = 160°C, which is 160 × 9/5 + 32 = 320°F.
Reverse: the °F for exactly 200°C is 392.00°F (exact 392.00°F); the forward is 200.00°C. The exact °C for 450°F is 232.22°C (chart 230°C). The °F for gas mark 5 is 375°F. The gas mark for 300°F is 2. The chart °C for gas mark 9 is 240°C; the exact conversion of its 475°F row is 246.11°C. The exact °C for gas mark ¼ (225°F) is 107.22°C (chart 110°C).
225°F: Exact 107.22°C, chart 110°C, gas ¼, nearest 225°F / 110°C / Gas ¼ — slow roasting, meringues, fan 90°C (194°F). The slowest oven on the chart — gas ¼, for slow roasting and meringues.

200°F (below the table): Exact 93.33°C, chart —°C, gas —, nearest 225°F / 110°C / Gas ¼ — slow roasting, meringues, fan —. Below the gas-mark scale, so the chart and gas columns show — — the nearest row is 225°F / Gas ¼. The exact conversion still works: 93.33°C.
550°F (above the table): Exact 287.78°C, chart —°C, gas —, nearest 500°F / 260°C / Gas 10 — pizza, bread, fan —. Above the gas-mark scale, so the chart and gas columns show — — the nearest row is 500°F / Gas 10. The exact conversion still works: 287.78°C.
The model assumes the standard gas-mark system: gas marks ¼–10 map to the Fahrenheit values in the table, and the chart °C column is the conventional value rounded to the nearest 10°C. It assumes fan ovens run about 20°C (25°F) cooler than the chart — reduce the setting by that much for a fan/convection oven. It assumes the gas-mark lookup is model-level only outside 225–500°F — the calculator still converts exactly; only the gas/chart columns show “—”. At 32°F the exact conversion is 0.00°C (freezing point of water) and the gas mark is —. At 212°F the exact conversion is 100.00°C (boiling point of water) and the gas mark is — — the nearest row is 225°F / Gas ¼. At 0°F the exact conversion is -17.78°C and the gas mark is —. Rounding convention: totals are computed from unrounded values, so rounded parts may differ by a cent from their rounded sum; the reverses are nearest-value solutions, and the exact unrounded figures (232.2222°C, 107.2222°C) are stated wherever the rounded figures appear.

The math is first-principles conversion: exact °C = (F − 32) × 5/9; gas mark = the nearest table row by |F − row F|; fan-oven °C = chart °C − 20; fan-oven °F = fan °C × 9/5 + 32. Every table cell is derived from the Fahrenheit value — the 350°F cell is (350 − 32) × 5/9 = 176.67°C, not a hand-typed number. The 4-decimal exact is shown where the rounding matters: the exact °C for 450°F is 232.2222°C (shown as 232.22°C; chart 230°C); the exact °C for gas mark ¼ is 107.2222°C (shown as 107.22°C; chart 110°C). What the model cannot do is calibrate your oven: real ovens run hot or cold by 10–25°F, the dial is approximate, and the gas-mark system itself is a convention — a recipe that says 180°C means 350°F / Gas 4 even though the exact conversion is 176.67°C. For pan sizes, see the baking pan conversion chart; for ingredient amounts, see the cooking measurement chart; for the air fryer, see the air fryer cooking time chart; and for rice, see the rice water ratio chart. This is a calculator, not a cookbook.
