Your recipe says cups, your scale says grams, and your measuring spoons disagree with both. 2.5 cups = 20 fl oz = 591.47 ml; 1.5 lb = 680.39 g. Look up any kitchen conversion below, then print the reference tables for the fridge.
Convert teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, milliliters, and liters.
Convert ounces, pounds, grams, and kilograms — for recipes that measure by weight.
Convert everything through milliliters (volume) or grams (weight): result = amount × (factor of from-unit ÷ factor of to-unit). One cup is 236.588 ml, so 2.5 cups × (236.588 ÷ 29.5735) = 20.00 fl oz, and 2.5 × 236.588 = 591.47 ml. One pound is 453.592 g, so 1.5 × 453.592 = 680.39 g. The factors never change — the confusion comes from mixing US, UK, and Australian spoons.
3 tablespoons to teaspoons and ml: 3 × 14.7868 = 44.3604 ml; 44.3604 ÷ 4.92892 = 9.00 tsp, and the milliliter read is 44.36 ml. Tablespoons are just triple-teaspoons — the one conversion with no rounding.
1 gallon to cups and liters: 3785.41 ÷ 236.588 = 16.00 cups; 3785.41 ÷ 1000 = 3.79 L. Sixteen cups to a gallon is the anchor fact the whole US ladder hangs on.
8 ounces to grams: 8 × 28.3495 = 226.80 g. This is the one bakers should memorize: a stick of butter (8 tbsp / 4 oz) is 113.40 g, and a cup of butter is 226.80 g.

Factors are exact US customary definitions: 1 cup = 236.588 ml, 1 fl oz = 29.5735 ml, 1 avoirdupois oz = 28.3495 g. Honest limits: a UK imperial pint is 568.26 ml (not 473.18), a UK imperial fl oz is 28.41 ml, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 ml (not 14.79) — recipes from those countries need their own factors. Volume-to-weight conversions (cups of flour to grams) are ingredient-specific and not interchangeable: this page converts units, not ingredients. Dry-goods densities vary; a kitchen scale wins every argument a chart can start.
Bright Side Kit. "Cooking Measurement Conversion Chart." https://brightoolbox.com/cooking-measurement-chart/ Accessed October 23, 2026.4 cups. The ladder runs 1 gallon = 4 quarts = 8 pints = 16 cups, so 1 quart = 2 pints = 4 cups = 32 fl oz = 946.35 ml.
4 tablespoons. A cup holds 16 tbsp, so a quarter cup is 4 tbsp — which is also 2 fl oz or 59.15 ml.
28.35 g (exactly 28.3495 g) for the avoirdupois ounce used in cooking. So 8 oz = 226.80 g and 1 lb (16 oz) = 453.59 g.
Different historical gallons: the US pint is 473.18 ml (from the US gallon of 3,785.41 ml) while the UK imperial pint is 568.26 ml — about 20% larger. A British recipe's "pint of milk" is not an American pint.
No. Coffee makers measure "cups" at 5–6 fl oz, and a standard mug holds 10–12 fl oz. A true US cup is 8 fl oz (236.59 ml) — for recipes, use a real measuring cup, not your mug.
