The 60-second rule
Divide by 168. That is the entire conversion: 1 week = 7 days, 1 day = 24 hours, so 1 week = 7 × 24 = 168 hours — exactly, always, by definition. Going back: multiply weeks by 168. 200 hours ÷ 168 = 1.1905 weeks, or as a split: 1 week + 1 day + 8 hours. 2.5 weeks × 168 = 420 hours. An 80-hour two-week pay period is 0.4762 weeks; a 40-hour work week is 0.2381 calendar weeks.
Worked examples
168 hours to weeks. 168 ÷ 168 = 1 week — also 7 days, 10,080 minutes, and 604,800 seconds. The reference point every other conversion is checked against.
200 hours as a weeks-and-days split. 200 ÷ 168 = 1.1905 weeks. The split: 1 full week (168 h) leaves 32 h = 1 day (24 h) + 8 h → 1 week + 1 day + 8 hours. Useful for shift schedules and project timelines that quote "about a week and a half."
2.5 weeks back to hours. 2.5 × 168 = 420 hours — 17.5 days, 25,200 minutes. The reverse direction matters for timesheets, server uptime ("99.9% over 4 weeks"), and lease terms quoted in weeks.

| Weeks | hours ÷ 168 | 1 at the default — the forward conversion, exact. |
| Days | hours ÷ 24 | 7 at the default — how the hours sit inside calendar days. |
| Minutes | hours × 60 | 10,080 at the default — the fine-grained forward conversion. |
| Seconds | hours × 3,600 | 604,800 at the default — one full week in seconds. |
| Weeks-and-days split | whole weeks + leftover days + hours | 1 wk at the default — the human-readable form (e.g. 200 h → 1 wk + 1 d + 8 h). |
| Hours (reverse) | weeks × 168 | 168 at the default — weeks back into hours. |
Who uses this
- The payroll manager converting 80 hours on a timesheet to 0.4762 weeks for a pay system that prorates by week.
- The project lead whose timeline says 200 hours of work: reads the split — 1 week + 1 day + 8 hours — and tells the client "about a week and a half."
- The landlord checking a 12-week sublet: 12 × 168 = 2,016 hours — 84 days, for the utility proration.
- The student checking homework: "how many weeks is 500 hours?" — 2.9762, with the formula shown so the method sticks.
Accuracy & limitations
The calendar week is exactly 168 hours by definition — this conversion is mathematically exact, not an estimate. A work week is not 168 hours: a 40-hour work week is 0.2381 calendar weeks, and a two-week 80-hour pay period is 0.4762 — do not use this page to compute overtime or pay. It does not know about daylight-saving transitions (the week containing one has 167 or 169 wall-clock hours) — for clock-time durations use the hours between times calculator. A calendar year is 52.1429 weeks, not 52. Very large inputs (beyond about 1 billion hours) are refused as likely typos.

Frequently asked questions
How many hours are in a week?
168 — exactly. 1 week = 7 days and 1 day = 24 hours, so 7 × 24 = 168. This is a definition, not a measurement, so it never changes.
What is the formula to convert hours to weeks?
Weeks = hours ÷ 168. That is the whole formula. For 200 hours: 200 ÷ 168 = 1.1905 weeks. To go the other way: hours = weeks × 168.
How many weeks is 40 hours?
0.2381 calendar weeks — 40 ÷ 168. Note this is not a "work week": a 40-hour work week is the working portion of a calendar week. An 80-hour two-week pay period is 0.4762 weeks.
How many weeks are in a year?
52.1429 — 8,760 ÷ 168. A common shortcut says 52 weeks, which is 2 days short of a 365-day year. The "extra" ~0.14 weeks is why the calendar shifts a day each year.
Can I convert weeks back to hours?
Yes — type the weeks into the second field and the calculator multiplies by 168. 2.5 weeks = 420 hours (17.5 days).
What is the weeks-and-days split?
The calculator breaks hours into whole weeks plus leftover days and hours: 200 hours = 1 week + 1 day + 8 hours (168 + 24 + 8). It is the human-readable version of the decimal — handy for schedules and timelines.
Does daylight saving time change the answer?
For wall-clock time, yes — for this calculator, no. The standard week is always 168 hours. The week containing a DST transition has 167 or 169 wall-clock hours, but timesheets and schedules almost always use the standard 168. For exact clock-time durations across a DST boundary, use the hours between times calculator.
