How to Convert Pakistan Time to US Time

Subtract 5 hours to reach UTC, then subtract the US zone's seasonal offset — and always check the date. This guide covers the fixed Pakistan offset, the winter and summer gaps, the date flip, and the India trap, with worked examples.

The one number to remember: UTC+5

Pakistan Time (PKT) is UTC+5, all year, for the whole country. Pakistan does not observe daylight saving time, and Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad all keep the same time, so there is exactly one Pakistan offset to learn and it never changes. Every conversion on this page starts from that number. To get from Pakistan time to UTC, subtract 5 hours. Noon in Pakistan is 07:00 UTC, on January 15 and on July 15 alike, in every year. If you remember nothing else, remember that subtraction, because everything else — the US zones, the seasons, the date flip — is just what happens after you reach UTC.

From UTC, each US zone subtracts its own offset. In the northern winter, Eastern Time is UTC−5, Central is UTC−6, Mountain is UTC−7, Pacific is UTC−8, and Hawaii is UTC−10. So the full winter gaps from Pakistan are 10 hours to Eastern, 11 to Central, 12 to Mountain, 13 to Pacific, and 15 to Hawaii. In the summer, the four mainland zones move one hour forward for daylight saving while Hawaii stays put, so the gaps shrink by one hour on the mainland: 9 hours to Eastern, 10 to Central, 11 to Mountain, 12 to Pacific, and still 15 to Hawaii. Pakistan never moves, so the summer shift is entirely an American event — and it is the reason a conversion that was right in January is wrong by an hour in July.

Winter versus summer, worked out

Take noon in Pakistan as the anchor, because it is the time most people actually convert — a midday meeting, a daytime call, a flight landing. In winter, noon on January 15, 2027 in Pakistan is 07:00 UTC, 02:00 Eastern (EST) the same morning, 01:00 Central (CST), and midnight Mountain (MST) — still the same calendar day in the east and centre, but only just. In summer, noon on July 15, 2027 in Pakistan is again 07:00 UTC, but now 03:00 Eastern (EDT), 02:00 Central (CDT), and 01:00 Mountain (MDT), all on July 15. The UTC time never changed; the American clocks did. If you schedule a recurring call across the seasons, expect it to jump by an hour on the US side in March and again in November, and warn the other side in advance rather than letting them discover it.

The date flip: when yesterday is the answer

The western zones are where conversions go wrong, because the date changes. In winter, noon on January 15 in Pakistan is 23:00 Pacific (PST) on January 14 — the previous day — and 21:00 Hawaii (HST) on January 14. In summer, noon on July 15 in Pakistan is midnight Pacific (PDT) on July 15 — the one case where the summer shift removes the date flip at noon — and again 21:00 Hawaii on July 14. The rule is simple: if the converted US time falls before midnight, the date is one day earlier than the Pakistan date. Always read the date beside the converted time, especially for flights and deadlines: a Pakistan daytime departure can be a previous-evening arrival day in the United States, and a deadline dated in Pakistan may already have passed in Hawaii. Hawaii deserves a special note because it never observes daylight saving, so the Pakistan-to-Hawaii gap is 15 hours in every season — noon in Pakistan is always 21:00 the previous day in Honolulu.

The India 30-minute trap

The most common Pakistan conversion mistake has nothing to do with America: it is India. India Time (IST) is UTC+5:30, exactly 30 minutes ahead of Pakistan Time, so noon in Pakistan is 12:30 the same afternoon in India. The two zones look almost identical, share a border, and are constantly confused in scheduling tools and conversation — and a 30-minute error is exactly large enough to miss the start of a call while looking like a rounding difference. Never copy an India conversion for Pakistan, and never assume a tool that says “Pakistan/India time” has the offset right. The same caution applies in the other direction: Pakistan is 3 hours behind China, so noon in Pakistan is 15:00 China Standard Time the same day — a whole-hour gap that is at least hard to miss.

A method you can do in your head

First, subtract 5 hours from the Pakistan time to get UTC, carrying the date back a day if you pass midnight. Second, subtract the US zone's offset for the season: in winter, 5 hours for Eastern, 6 for Central, 7 for Mountain, 8 for Pacific, 10 for Hawaii; in summer, one hour less on the mainland and the same 10 for Hawaii. Third, check whether you crossed midnight — if so, the US date is one day earlier. Try it: 18:00 in Pakistan on a summer evening is 13:00 UTC, which is 09:00 Eastern Daylight Time the same day and 03:00 Hawaii the same day, because the morning US times have not yet crossed midnight. And 09:00 in Pakistan on a winter morning is 04:00 UTC, which is 23:00 Eastern the previous evening — the date flip again, this time in the east. When the arithmetic feels fragile, use the converter rather than guessing: one wrong hour is worse than thirty seconds spent checking.

The neighbour rows never change with the seasons, because neither India nor China observes daylight saving either. That stability is worth remembering: the only moving parts in a Pakistan conversion are the four mainland US zones, twice a year.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours is Pakistan behind or ahead of US Eastern Time?

Pakistan is 10 hours ahead of Eastern Time in winter and 9 hours ahead in summer. Noon in Pakistan is 02:00 EST in January and 03:00 EDT in July, on the same morning.

How do I convert Pakistan time to US time quickly?

Subtract 5 hours to get UTC, then subtract the US zone's seasonal offset — 5 hours for Eastern in winter, 4 in summer — and check whether the date flips back a day.

Does Pakistan have daylight saving time?

No. Pakistan stays on UTC+5 all year, so the gap to the US changes only when the US zones shift for daylight saving, in March and November.

Why is the US date sometimes a day earlier?

Because Pakistan is 9 to 10 hours ahead of the US zones, a Pakistan daytime is the previous evening in the west. Noon in Pakistan is 23:00 the previous day in Los Angeles in winter.

Is Pakistan time the same as India time?

No. India Time is UTC+5:30, 30 minutes ahead of Pakistan Time. Noon in Pakistan is 12:30 the same afternoon in India — the classic 30-minute trap.

What time is noon in Pakistan in Hawaii?

21:00 the previous day, all year. Hawaii never observes daylight saving, so the Pakistan-to-Hawaii gap is always 15 hours.
