On the defaults — an $80.00 monthly base allowance plus 3 golf rounds a month at $50.00 each — your golf allowance totals $230.00 a month and $2,760.00 for the year. This is the GOLF version — a monthly base for golf extras plus paid golf rounds priced monthly — the sailing-allowance-calculator page is the SAILING version — a monthly base for sailing extras plus paid trips priced monthly; the kayaking-allowance-calculator page is the KAYAKING version — a monthly base for kayaking extras plus paid trips priced monthly; the cycling-allowance-calculator page is the CYCLING version — a monthly base for cycling extras plus paid rides priced monthly; and the how-to-calculate-golf-allowance guide is the METHOD version — the same $80.00 base plus 3 golf rounds at $50.00 worked step by step.
Put your monthly base allowance, golf rounds per month and cost per golf round in: $80.00 base plus 3 golf rounds at $50.00 total $230.00 a month, $2,760.00 over 12 months.
It means $80.00 of recurring base allowance plus $150.00 of paid golf rounds: 3 rounds at $50.00 each. The base is just over a third of the monthly total (34.78%), and the golf rounds are the rest. Over 12 months that is $960.00 of base plus $1,800.00 of golf rounds, $2,760.00 in all. If the base rises by $10.00, the monthly total rises by exactly $10.00; if one golf round is added at $50.00, the monthly total rises by $50.00.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Golf rounds total per month | golf rounds × cost per golf round | $150.00 — 3 × $50.00. |
| Total per month | monthly base allowance + golf rounds × cost per golf round | $230.00 — $80.00 + $150.00. |
| Total golf allowance | (monthly base allowance + golf rounds × cost per golf round) × 12 | $2,760.00 — $230.00 × 12. |
| Base total | monthly base allowance × 12 | $960.00 — $80.00 × 12. |
| Golf rounds total | golf rounds × cost per golf round × 12 | $1,800.00 — 3 × $50.00 × 12. |
| Base behind a target monthly total | target monthly total − golf rounds × cost per golf round | $80.00 — $230.00 − $150.00. |
| Per-round amount behind a target monthly total | (target monthly total − monthly base allowance) ÷ golf rounds | $50.00 — ($230.00 − $80.00) ÷ 3. |
| Golf rounds behind a target monthly total | (target monthly total − monthly base allowance) ÷ cost per golf round | 3 — ($230.00 − $80.00) ÷ $50.00. |
First, the base must be recurring: glove replacement, tee and ball supply and small extras that repeat every month. A one-off set of clubs is not base and would inflate every month it is spread across. Second, count only paid golf rounds: rounds covered by a club membership or by the base allowance cost $0.00 extra and must not be entered, or the total double-counts them. Third, the per-round price must be the all-in round price you actually pay — green fee plus any round-only cart hire — not the green fee alone, or the year total understates the real spend.
Base $80.00, 3 golf rounds, $50.00 per golf round. Golf rounds total: 3 × $50.00 = $150.00. Monthly total: $80.00 + $150.00 = $230.00. Yearly total: $230.00 × 12 = $2,760.00, split as $960.00 base and $1,800.00 rounds. Add a fourth round and the month becomes $280.00; drop to two rounds and it becomes $180.00. The base share falls as rounds rise, because the base is fixed while the rounds line grows.
A $100.00 base with the same golf rounds and per-round amount gives $250.00 a month and $3,000.00 a year. A $40.00 per-round amount with the same base and golf rounds gives $200.00 a month and $2,400.00 a year. Two golf rounds with the same base and per-round amount give $180.00 a month and $2,160.00 a year. Five golf rounds with the same base and per-round amount give $330.00 a month and $3,960.00 a year. Each branch changes exactly one input, so the difference from $230.00 isolates that input.
The base behind $230.00 a month is $80.00: at $70.00 the figures are $220.00 a month and $2,640.00 a year, and at $90.00 they are $240.00 a month and $2,880.00 a year — a $10.00 step moves the month by $10.00. The per-round amount behind $230.00 a month is $50.00: at $45.00 the figures are $215.00 a month and $2,580.00 a year, and at $55.00 they are $245.00 a month and $2,940.00 a year — a $5.00 step moves the month by $15.00, because it applies to all 3 rounds. The golf rounds behind $230.00 a month are 3: at 2 rounds the figures are $180.00 a month and $2,160.00 a year, and at 5 rounds they are $330.00 a month and $3,960.00 a year — the step from 3 to 5 is two rounds, so the month moves by $100.00.
The defaults assume a flat $80.00 base every month of the year, 3 paid golf rounds every month, and a constant $50.00 per golf round. Real golf is seasonal: a summer month may hold 6 rounds and a winter month none, so the honest use is to enter the average month, or to run the calculator once per season and add the seasons. Zero golf rounds is the honest edge: $80.00 a month and $960.00 a year, the base alone. Negative inputs are rejected — a base, a round count, or a per-round price below zero has no meaning here.
A weekend golfer budgeting the year: the base covers gloves, tees and balls, the rounds line prices the paid green fees, and the year total is the annual budget. A golf-club treasurer setting a member allowance: the base is the shared kit allowance and the per-round price is the group green-fee rate. A parent pricing a child's golf program: the base is the monthly coaching-club fee and the golf rounds are the paid course days. A benefits manager comparing sport allowances: the same base-plus-rounds shape prices golf next to sailing, kayaking, cycling and swimming on equal terms.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is in the inputs. A base that bundles one-off purchases, a round count that mixes covered and paid rounds, or a per-round price that omits cart hire will each move the answer by exactly the amount of the error, every month. The model does not include travel, lodging, lessons, club fitting, or employer reimbursement caps — price those separately, and re-check the allowance when the base or the per-round price changes. This page is a calculation tool, not payroll or benefits advice.
Golf base $80.00 plus 3 rounds at $50.00 total $230.00 a month: $2,760.00 a year, $960.00 base plus $1,800.00 rounds. Source: Bright Side Kit, https://brightoolbox.com/golf-allowance-calculator/, accessed 29 October 2026 (2026-10-29).
The recurring amount for glove replacement, tee and ball supply and small golf extras: the figure set each month. Paid golf rounds are not part of the base — they have their own line — and one-off charges such as a new set of clubs belong in the month they are charged, not spread across the base.
Enter 0 golf rounds, or a $0.00 cost per golf round, and the total is the base alone: $80.00 a month and $960.00 over 12 months on these defaults. A covered golf round makes its rounds line $0.00 by definition, and that is the honest edge, not a missing input.
The average month, if you want the year total to be right: 3 rounds a month here means 36 rounds a year. Enter the busiest month only when you are pricing that month itself, and say so, or the year total will overstate the season.
No. A membership paid yearly is a lump sum, not a monthly base. Either leave it out and price paid rounds only, or spread it yourself across the months it covers and add it to the base — but never do both, or the membership is counted twice.
Because the per-round price applies once per round: one more round adds exactly one per-round charge. The base does not change when rounds change, which is why the rounds line, not the base, carries the seasonal swing.
Yes, as a pricing check: enter the employer's base and per-round rate and compare the year total with the employer's cap. The calculator prices whatever figures you enter; it does not check any employer's rules.
