What does Monday, April 26, 2027 mean?
It means that 180 days after Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the calendar reads Monday, April 26, 2027. 3 of the 180 days are used up finishing October, 30 land in November, 31 land in December, 31 land in January, 28 land in February, 31 land in March and 26 in April. The weekday follows from the count: 180 days is 25 weeks plus 5 days, so the weekday moves 5 days forward from Wednesday to Monday. The span holds 128 weekdays — Monday to Friday, October 29 through April 26 — and 122 business days, because 6 of those weekdays are US federal holidays: Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, Thanksgiving, November 26, 2026, Christmas, December 25, 2026, New Year's Day, January 1, 2027, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18, 2027 and Presidents Day, February 15, 2027.
Three things to check before you trust the number
The start date does not count. Adding 180 days to October 28 lands on Monday, April 26, 2027, not the day after: the count starts on October 29, the day after the start. If you count the start date as day one, every answer comes out one day late. The weekdays and business days are counted the same way — the days after the start date through the result date, inclusive.
Weekdays and business days are different numbers. The 180-day span holds 128 weekdays but only 122 business days, because 6 federal holidays fall inside it. A span in January would lose Martin Luther King Jr. Day; a span in July would lose Independence Day. The calculator counts US federal holidays on their calendar dates — a holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday costs no business day, because it was never a weekday.
Months and leap years are handled by the calendar, not by arithmetic. Adding 180 days is not adding six months: 180 days from October 28 is Monday, April 26, 2027, but 180 days from November 28 is Thursday, May 27, 2027, and 30 days from February 28, 2028 is Wednesday, March 29, 2028 — because 2028 is a leap year and February has 29 days. The calculator adds days to the real calendar, so month lengths and leap days are never guessed.
Worked example
On the defaults: start Wednesday, October 28, 2026, add 180 days.
- Finish October: October has 31 days, so October 29, 30 and 31 use 3 of the 180 days.
- Move through November 2026: November takes 30 more days.
- Move through December 2026: December takes 31 more days.
- Move through January 2027: January takes 31 more days.
- Move through February 2027: February takes 28 more days.
- Move through March 2027: March takes 31 more days.
- Land in April 2027: the last 26 days land there, on Monday, April 26, 2027.
- Find the weekday: 180 days is 25 weeks plus 5 days, so Wednesday moves 5 days forward to Monday.
- Count the weekdays: October 29 through April 26 holds 128 weekdays.
- Take out the holidays: Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, Thanksgiving, November 26, 2026, Christmas, December 25, 2026, New Year's Day, January 1, 2027, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18, 2027 and Presidents Day, February 15, 2027 leave 122 business days.
And the other way: 180 days before October 28, 2026 is Friday, May 1, 2026, and the smallest number of days to add to reach Tuesday, December 1, 2026 is 34 — at 33 days you land on Monday, November 30, 2026.

What the defaults assume
The defaults are a start date of October 28, 2026 — today — and 180 days to add, chosen because "180 days from today" is the question people actually type. They are a starting point, not a lesson: change the start date to any date, change the days to 30, 45, 60 or 90, switch to days-ago to go backwards, or switch to days-between to count the gap between two dates. Business days are US federal holidays on their calendar dates — New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas — with no observed-shift for holidays that fall on a weekend, and no state or local holidays. A date that does not exist, like February 30, is refused instead of rolling over to March.
These notes repeat in every explainer section because this page is built to be read start to finish: the start date does not count; weekdays and business days are different numbers; and months and leap years are handled by the calendar, not by arithmetic.

Who uses this
- Someone counting a 180-day window — a return deadline, a notice period, a trial that ends 180 days from today, on Monday, April 26, 2027.
- A project manager — 180 days is 122 business days once the holidays come out, and that is the number a deadline actually runs on.
- A traveler — 120 days from October 28, 2026 is Sunday, December 27, 2026, and the weekday matters more than the date.
- Anyone checking a date in the past — 180 days ago was Friday, May 1, 2026, and the days-between mode counts the gap between any two dates.
Accuracy & limitations
Dates are exact calendar arithmetic: the result date, the weekday, the weekday count and the business-day count are all computed from the real calendar, including month lengths and leap years — February 29, 2028 exists, and the calculator lands on it. Business days are weekdays minus US federal holidays on their calendar dates, with no observed-shift for holidays that fall on a weekend and no state, local or company holidays — a span that crosses a state holiday will show one business day too many. The calculator counts the days after the start date through the result date, inclusive, and the start date itself never counts. It works for any date the calendar covers; dates before the Gregorian calendar are out of scope.
