Vacuum time calculator
Put your rooms and minutes a room in: 6 rooms at 15 minutes a room take 90 minutes — 1.5 hours of vacuuming.

On the defaults — 6 rooms at 15 minutes a room — vacuum time is 90 minutes, or 1.5 hours. This is the vacuum time tool: multiply the rooms by the minutes a room for the minutes, divide by 60 for the hours — a house guessed from the room count alone tells you nothing until the pace behind it is known.
Put your rooms and minutes a room in: 6 rooms at 15 minutes a room take 90 minutes — 1.5 hours of vacuuming.
It means six rooms, each vacuumed for fifteen minutes, take ninety minutes in total, which is one point five hours of vacuuming. The rooms set the count, the pace sets the time of every room, and the hour is a fixed sixty minutes: a seventh room adds a full fifteen minutes without quickening any room, and a slower pace adds time to every room without adding a single extra room. The only judgement is the pace — 15 minutes must be the pace actually vacuumed, not the quick pass hoped for, and the pace that settles the cleaning day is the one the house actually takes, edges and furniture included, not the open floor alone.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Total minutes | rooms × minutes a room | 90 minutes — 6 × 15. |
| Total hours | minutes ÷ 60 | 1.5 hours — 90 ÷ 60. |
First, check the rooms honestly: 6 rooms must be rooms actually vacuumed, not rooms counted twice because they were entered halfway — a room counted that never got vacuumed adds fifteen phantom minutes to the day. Second, check the pace against the house, not the hope: 15 minutes must be the pace actually vacuumed, including moving furniture and doing the edges, because a carpeted room with pets can take twice as long as a bare room, and a pace borrowed from the quickest room misstates the total by the whole difference on every room. Third, check the hours against the day: 1.5 hours of vacuuming is real work, not machine time — the figure to plan around is when the last room finishes, including breaks for emptying the vacuum and moving between rooms.
6 rooms, 15 minutes a room. Minutes: 6 × 15 = 90 minutes. Hours: 90 ÷ 60 = 1.5 hours. In practice that means starting by mid-morning if the vacuuming must be done before guests arrive — the number to set against the day plan, and the 90-minute figure to use when a seventh room is weighed against a faster pace.
At 8 rooms instead of 6, the time rises to 120 minutes — 2 hours. At 10 minutes a room instead of 15, the time falls to 60 minutes — 1 hour. At 4 rooms instead of 6, the time falls to 60 minutes — 1 hour. At 20 minutes a room instead of 15, the time rises to 120 minutes — 2 hours.
The rooms behind 90 minutes are 6: at 4 rooms the time is 60 minutes; at 8 rooms it is 120 minutes. The pace behind 90 minutes is 15 minutes: at 10 minutes a room the time is 60 minutes; at 20 minutes a room it is 120 minutes — the pace never touches the room count, only the time each room takes.
The defaults assume 6 rooms vacuumed back to back at 15 minutes a room, with no gap for emptying the vacuum, moving furniture, or resting between rooms. They do not assume a half room, a cordless vacuum running out of charge, or a room skipped because the door was shut — a household that empties the vacuum twice needs longer than 1.5 hours from first room to last, so treat 90 as the vacuuming time, not the whole cleaning day.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the room count and the true pace. Real vacuuming varies with carpet, pets, furniture, and edges — so treat 90 as the planning time for six rooms at a true 15-minute pace, and check it against one timed room before quoting it to anyone else.

90 minutes on the defaults: 6 rooms × 15 minutes = 90 minutes, or 1.5 hours of vacuuming.
It should: enter the full time a room actually takes, furniture and edges included. A 10-minute open-floor pass with 5 minutes of edges is a 15-minute room, and entering only the pass understates every room.
Because carpet holds dust and pet hair that a hard floor gives up quickly: carpeted rooms often take twice as long. Enter the pace the rooms actually take, not the fastest room in the house.
Divide the hour by the pace: 1 hour fits 4 rooms at 15 minutes, and a 10-minute pace fits 6 rooms in an hour — the pace decides the count, not the house.
No: vacuuming is one chore among several. The 90 minutes is vacuuming only, and dusting, mopping, and bathrooms add their own time on top of it.
