One time zone for the whole of India
India Standard Time (IST) is UTC+5:30 all year, from Mumbai in the west to Kolkata in the east, and India has no daylight saving time. That makes conversion simple on the Mumbai side: subtract 5 hours and 30 minutes to get UTC, every day of the year, with no spring-forward or fall-back to track. The half hour is the part people get wrong: IST is not a whole-hour offset, so a round Mumbai hour always lands on a half hour in UTC. The complication is entirely on the American side, where the US zones shift with daylight saving while Mumbai does not, so the gap between Mumbai and New York is 10 hours 30 minutes in the northern winter and 9 hours 30 minutes in the summer. A noon meeting in Mumbai is therefore 01:30 the same morning in New York in January, but 02:30 the same morning in July.
Watch the US date flip — and mind which IST you mean
Mumbai is 9 hours 30 minutes to 15 hours 30 minutes ahead of the US zones, so a Mumbai daytime is usually the same US morning in the east and the previous US evening in the west. That split is the most common scheduling mistake with Mumbai: the same converted time can fall on two different US dates depending on the zone, so always read the date beside each converted time, not just the hour. One more trap: the letters IST are also used for Irish Standard Time, which is Ireland's summer daylight-saving time (UTC+1) and has nothing to do with India. On this page, IST means India Standard Time only. If a schedule says IST in an Irish context, it is a different clock entirely.

| Mountain time | UTC − 7 hours (winter) or 6 hours (summer) | 23:30 MST Jan 14 in winter, 00:30 MDT Jul 15 in summer. |
| Pacific time | UTC − 8 hours (winter) or 7 hours (summer) | 22:30 PST Jan 14 in winter, 23:30 PDT Jul 14 in summer. |
| Hawaii time | UTC − 10 hours, year-round | 20:30 HST on the previous day, winter and summer alike. |
Who uses this
- The remote worker with a Mumbai team: checks whether a 10:00 Mumbai standup means staying up until 23:30 the night before in New York, and confirms the date before accepting.
- The traveler landing in Mumbai: converts a 15:30 Mumbai arrival back to US times, so family waiting at home knows it is 05:00 the same day in New York.
- The student joining a Mumbai-based class or event: finds the US morning or evening and date for a Mumbai daytime session, including the summer daylight-saving shift.
- The family calling relatives in Mumbai: picks a Mumbai evening that lands on a US morning, instead of waking someone up in the middle of the night.
Accuracy & limitations
IST is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving, so the Mumbai side of every conversion is exact, and this converter reads its time-zone data from the browser's Intl database rather than any hand-coded offset. US times follow the daylight-saving rules in force on the entered date; if those rules ever change by law, results for dates after the change depend on an updated browser. On this page, IST means India Standard Time only — Irish Standard Time is a different, summer-only Irish clock and must not be confused with it. This page is the Mumbai city entry point; Mumbai shares IST with all of India, so the same conversion applies in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, and the country-level IST converter covers the same rule in a national framing.
