Live metric converter
Any value, any unit — every equivalent shown at once.
REFERENCE TABLE · MATH · CONVERTERS
One chart for the conversions real life actually asks for: 5 km is 3.11 miles, 70 kg is 154.32 lb, 25°C is 77°F. The table below covers length, weight, and volume with the exact factors — and the live lookup converts any value instantly, both directions of the common pairs. Print-friendly: the chart fits one page.
Any value, any unit — every equivalent shown at once.
| Metric | Equals (US) | Reverse | You meet it in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Millimeter (mm) | 0.0393701 in | Inch ÷ 25.4 | Screw sizes, rainfall |
| Centimeter (cm) | 0.393701 in | Inch ÷ 2.54 | Height, clothing, snow |
| Meter (m) | 3.28084 ft · 1.09361 yd | Foot ÷ 0.3048 | Room sizes, race distances |
| Kilometer (km) | 0.621371 mi | Mile ÷ 1.60934 | Driving, running, cycling |
| Gram (g) | 0.035274 oz | Ounce ÷ 28.3495 | Recipes, postage, nutrition labels |
| Kilogram (kg) | 2.20462 lb | Pound ÷ 0.453592 | Body weight, luggage, freight |
| Milliliter (mL) | 0.033814 fl oz | Fluid oz ÷ 29.5735 | Medicine doses, perfume |
| Liter (L) | 0.264172 gal (US) | Gallon ÷ 3.78541 | Fuel economy, aquariums, paint |
| Celsius (°C) | °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 | °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9 | Weather, ovens, fevers |
Multiply by the factor; flip it for the reverse. 5 km × 0.621371 = 3.11 miles. 70 kg × 2.20462 = 154.32 lb. Temperature is the only odd one: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 (25°C → 77°F), because the scales start at different zeros. A handy anchor: 1 m ≈ 3 ft 3 in, 1 kg ≈ 2.2 lb, 1 L ≈ 1 quart and a sip.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Miles | km × 0.621371 | 3.10686 mi for 5 km — the road-sign number. |
| Feet | km × 3,280.84 | 16,404.2 ft for 5 km — the surveyor’s number. |
| Pounds | kg × 2.20462 | 154.32 lb for 70 kg — the scale number. |
| Fahrenheit | °C × 9/5 + 32 | 77°F for 25°C — the weather number. |
The factors are exact by definition (the inch is defined as exactly 2.54 cm; the pound as exactly 0.45359237 kg), so the only error is rounding. Watch two traps: US vs imperial gallons — this chart uses the US gallon (3.78541 L); an imperial gallon is 4.54609 L, so British fuel figures need a different factor. And fluid ounces vs weight ounces: a fluid ounce measures volume, an ounce measures weight — they only match for water. Converting grams to cups depends on the ingredient’s density, which no fixed factor can do.
Bright Side Kit. "Metric Conversion Chart." https://brightoolbox.com/metric-conversion-chart/ Accessed October 23, 2026.Multiply by 0.621371: 5 km × 0.621371 = 3.11 miles. For a quick mental estimate, halve the kilometers and add 10% (5 → 2.5 + 0.25 ≈ 2.75 — close enough for road signs in reverse).
Multiply by 2.20462: 70 kg × 2.20462 = 154.32 lb. Mental shortcut: double the kilograms and add 10% (70 → 140 + 14 = 154). The live lookup above does it exactly.
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32. 25°C × 9/5 + 32 = 77°F. Going back: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. Unlike the rest of the chart, temperature needs the +32 because the two scales start at different zeros.
One liter is 0.264172 US gallons — so a 4-liter jug is 1.06 gallons, and 20 L is 5.28 gal. Note this is the US gallon; the imperial gallon used in the UK is bigger (4.54609 L).
180 × 0.393701 = 70.87 inches, which is 5 ft 10.9 in. Handy anchors: 150 cm ≈ 4 ft 11 in, 180 cm ≈ 5 ft 11 in, 190 cm ≈ 6 ft 3 in.
A fluid ounce measures volume (29.5735 mL) and an ounce measures weight (28.3495 g). They coincide only for water. Eight fluid ounces of honey weighs about 12 ounces — recipes that mix the two are why kitchen scales win.
