Put your travelers, flights, hotel nights, rate, food and days in: 2 travelers, $350 flights each, 3 nights at $140 and $60 food a day for 4 days total $1,600.00 — $800.00 a traveler.

On the defaults — 2 travelers, $350 flights each, 3 hotel nights at $140, $60 food a day for 4 days — a holiday trip costs $1,600.00 in all, $700.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $480.00 food, $800.00 a traveler. This is the holiday travel budget tool: travelers times the fare is the flights, nights times the nightly rate is the hotel, travelers times daily food times days is the food, and the three together are the trip — a flight price tells you nothing until the hotel and the food are counted.
Put your travelers, flights, hotel nights, rate, food and days in: 2 travelers, $350 flights each, 3 nights at $140 and $60 food a day for 4 days total $1,600.00 — $800.00 a traveler.
It means two travelers flying at three hundred and fifty dollars each, sleeping three nights at a hundred and forty dollars a night, and eating at sixty dollars a traveler a day for four days, spend seven hundred dollars on flights, four hundred and twenty on the hotel, and four hundred and eighty on food — sixteen hundred dollars in all, eight hundred dollars a traveler. The flights set the fixed cost of getting there, the hotel sets the cost of staying, and the food sets the cost that grows with every traveler and every day: a longer trip costs more even with the same flights, and another traveler costs more even in the same room. The only judgement is the nights themselves — a trip that starts late and ends early is not the same nights as the days counted, and the hotel actually booked is the only honest source for them.
| Output | Formula | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Flights | travelers × flight each | $700.00 — 2 × $350. |
| Hotel | nights × rate a night | $420.00 — 3 × $140. |
| Food | travelers × food a day × days | $480.00 — 2 × $60 × 4. |
| A traveler | total ÷ travelers | $800.00 — $1,600.00 ÷ 2. |
First, check the flight price honestly: $350 must be the fare actually booked, not a fare seen once and gone — a fare that excludes bags and seat fees understates every traveler, and the wrong fare breaks the flights total by exactly its own change times the travelers. Second, check the nights against the booking actually made: 3 nights must be the nights actually stayed, not the days of the trip — a four-day trip is usually three nights, and an extra night breaks the hotel total even when the nightly rate is right. Third, check the food figure against the trip actually planned: $60 a traveler a day must be the food actually eaten, not a home grocery figure — a holiday dinner out is dearer than a home dinner, and the wrong daily figure breaks the food total by every traveler and every day at once.
2 travelers, $350 a flight, 3 nights at $140, $60 food a traveler a day, 4 days. Flights: 2 × $350 = $700.00. Hotel: 3 × $140 = $420.00. Food: 2 × $60 × 4 = $480.00. Total: $700.00 + $420.00 + $480.00 = $1,600.00, or $800.00 a traveler. In practice that means a two-person holiday trip costs about sixteen hundred dollars before gifts and activities, and the $800.00 a traveler is the figure to set against a package deal actually offered, since the package, not the parts, is what a traveler really pays.
At 1 traveler, same flight, hotel, food and days, Holiday travel budget $1,010.00 total (1 traveler, $350.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $240.00 food, $1,010.00 a traveler).. At 4 travelers, same flight, hotel, food and days, Holiday travel budget $2,780.00 total (4 travelers, $1,400.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $960.00 food, $695.00 a traveler).. At 5 hotel nights, same travelers, flight, food and days, Holiday travel budget $1,880.00 total (2 travelers, $700.00 flights, $700.00 hotel, $480.00 food, $940.00 a traveler).. At $80 food a day, same travelers, flight, hotel and days, Holiday travel budget $1,760.00 total (2 travelers, $700.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $640.00 food, $880.00 a traveler)..
The travelers behind is 2 travelers: at the lower value the result is Holiday travel budget $1,010.00 total (1 traveler, $350.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $240.00 food, $1,010.00 a traveler)., and at the upper value it is Holiday travel budget $2,780.00 total (4 travelers, $1,400.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $960.00 food, $695.00 a traveler).. The flight behind is $350 flight: at the lower value the result is Holiday travel budget $1,400.00 total (2 travelers, $500.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $480.00 food, $700.00 a traveler)., and at the upper value it is Holiday travel budget $1,800.00 total (2 travelers, $900.00 flights, $420.00 hotel, $480.00 food, $900.00 a traveler)..
The defaults assume 2 travelers, one room for 3 nights at $140 a night, $350 flights each, and $60 food a traveler a day over 4 days, for one holiday trip. They do not assume a second room, airport parking, gifts, or activities — so treat $1,600.00 total and $800.00 a traveler as the planning figures for the trip alone at 2 travelers and $350 flights, and check them against the bookings, because real holiday trips always hide one more expense than the budget remembered.
The arithmetic is exact for the inputs entered; the judgement is the fare actually booked, the nights actually stayed, and whether one room really holds every traveler. Real trips vary with bag fees, parking, taxes, and a second room — so treat $1,600.00 as the planning total for 2 travelers at $350 flights and 3 nights at $140, and check it against the bookings before budgeting it as exact. This is a planning estimate, not travel advice.

Students and researchers: cite the calculator name, the page URL and the date you used it, and quote the defaults (2 travelers, $350 flights, 3 nights at $140, $60 food a day, 4 days) so the result can be checked.
$1,600.00 on the defaults: $700.00 flights, $420.00 hotel for 3 nights, and $480.00 food over 4 days.
$800.00 on the defaults: $1,600.00 total divided by 2 travelers.
On the defaults, a third traveler adds a $350 flight and $240 food over 4 days, but no extra hotel if one room still holds everyone.
Because the arrival day and the departure day share the trip: four days away usually means three nights slept in the hotel.
Then the same trip costs $1,760.00 total, with $640.00 of food and $880.00 a traveler.
No: gifts, activities, parking and bag fees are separate — this calculator counts flights, hotel and food only.
