What does a 5'9" golfer playing standard clubs mean?
On the default — a 5'9" golfer — the adjustment is standard and the driver is 45 in (114.30 cm), the 7-iron is 37 in (93.98 cm) and the putter is 34 in (86.36 cm). The centimetres are the inches times 2.54: 45 × 2.54 = 114.30 cm. A 5'9" golfer plays the clubs as the maker built them — no adjustment — because the standard clubs are built for a 5'9" golfer. Whether that is the right length depends on your arms — a tall golfer with short arms plays shorter clubs than a short golfer with long arms.
Three things about the model are worth stating plainly.
First, the conversion is 45 × 2.54 = 114.30 cm, and the adjustment is standard — the centimetres and the adjustment are two outputs, never the same number. Second, the meaning is 45 in of driver for a 5'9" golfer — the standard driver, the longest club in the bag, not the size of the golfer. And third, the adjustment is a step function of the height band: 5'8" is still standard, but 5'7" is −0.25 in — one inch of height crosses the band — all listed in Accuracy & limitations.
The worked example, line by line
Setup: height 5'9" (69 in).
Line 1 — the adjustment. 69 in sits in the 5'8" to 5'10" band — standard.
Line 2 — the driver. 45 in + 0 in = 45 in (114.30 cm).
Line 3 — the 7-iron. 37 in + 0 in = 37 in (93.98 cm).
Line 4 — the putter. 34 in + 0 in = 34 in (86.36 cm).
Line 5 — the check. At 5'8" (68 in) the adjustment is still standard — and at 5'7" (67 in) it is −0.25 in, so the driver is 44.75 in.

The table runs from a 45-inch driver to a 34-inch putter. Every club in the table sits inside one of the five classes: driver and woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putter. The lengths decrease from driver to putter — 45 in down to 34 in — and two pairs share a length: the 5-hybrid and the 3-iron are both 39 in, and the sand wedge and the lob wedge are both 35 in. The classes are continuous — every club has a class — and the same club is the same length in every set. The table is a synthesis of published golf fitting guidance for men’s clubs — a 45-inch driver and a 37-inch 7-iron are the published standards, and the length roughly halves the gap as the clubs get shorter. Club length varies by maker and by set — add or subtract your adjustment from the fitting chart, and always check the maker’s own spec sheet for the exact set you are buying.
No golf club length page of any kind exists on this site — the closest page is the ski-length-chart page, which covers ski length by height and skill — a different sport, the same idea — it does NOT cover golf clubs. This page is the golf club length’s own size chart: every club from driver to putter, in inches and centimetres, by height, with a live lookup that applies your adjustment.
Driver: Driver = 45 in (114.30 cm); woods — The longest club in the bag, the standard driver.

A note on the rounding: the centimetres are displayed to two decimals, half-up. All nineteen table rows convert to exact two-decimal centimetres, so the table itself carries no rounding trap — the trap lives in the adjustment, where one inch of height crosses a band. At 5'7" (67 in) the adjustment is −0.25 in and the driver is 44.75 in; at 5'8" (68 in) the adjustment is standard and the driver is 45 in. At 5'10" (70 in) the adjustment is +0.25 in and the driver is 45.25 in; at 6'0" (72 in) the adjustment is +0.5 in and the driver is 45.5 in. The page prints the band edges so the step does not mislead you.

Who uses this
- The weekend golfer buying a first set: they learn a 5'9" golfer plays standard clubs — a 45-inch driver and a 37-inch 7-iron — and they check the 6'0" reverse to see the shortest height needing +0.5 in.
- The tall golfer ordering clubs online: they learn a 6'2" golfer plays +1 in — a 46-inch driver — and they check the 5'3" reverse to see the tallest height with −1 in.
- The parent buying junior clubs: they learn a 5'0" golfer plays −1.5 in — a 43.5-inch driver — and they check the 5'5" reverse to see the tallest height with −0.5 in.
- The student learning club fitting: they learn the adjustment is about +0.5 in per 2 in of height — and they check the 5'8" reverse to see the shortest height for standard clubs.
Accuracy & limitations
The math is first-principles: the centimetres are the inches times 2.54, and the adjustment comes from the height band — all in inches and centimetres, the centimetres displayed to two decimals half-up. There is NO division in this calculator — nothing can be undefined — but there ARE steps: a 5'7" golfer plays −0.25 in and a 5'8" golfer plays standard — one inch of height crosses the band. Heights below 5'0" clamp at −1.5 in — a 4'11" golfer plays a 43.5-inch driver — and heights above 6'6" top out at +2 in — a 7'0" golfer plays a 47-inch driver. At 0 in or a negative height the calculator asks for a real height, never a negative club. The classes are the five groups of the bag: woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putter — and two pairs share a length: the 5-hybrid and the 3-iron are both 39 in, and the sand wedge and the lob wedge are both 35 in. The table is a synthesis of published golf fitting guidance for men’s clubs — a 45-inch driver and a 37-inch 7-iron are the published standards. Club length varies by maker and by set — add or subtract your adjustment from the fitting chart, and always check the maker’s own spec sheet for the exact set you are buying. What the model cannot do is fit your clubs: it says nothing about your arms — whether your wrist-to-floor measurement is long or short for your height — and it says nothing about your swing — whether you stand upright or crouch over the ball. Use it to find your starting point — then check the ski length, bike size and helmet size charts before you buy the gear.

Frequently asked questions
What length golf clubs do I need?
At 5'9", standard clubs — a 45-inch driver and a 37-inch 7-iron. Put in your height in inches and the chart works out your adjustment: about +0.5 in per 2 in of height above 5'9", and −0.5 in per 2 in below it.
How do I convert golf club length from inches to centimetres?
Multiply the inches by 2.54. 45 × 2.54 = 114.30 cm. Every row of the table is the club length in inches times 2.54.
What does a 5'9" golfer playing standard clubs mean?
The clubs as the maker built them, no adjustment. A 45-inch driver, a 37-inch 7-iron and a 34-inch putter. The standard clubs are built for a 5'9" golfer.
What if my height falls between two bands?
The band decides, not the exact height. A 5'7.5" golfer sits in the 5'6" to 5'8" band and plays −0.25 in, the same as a 5'7" golfer. One inch of height crosses a band at 5'8", 5'10", 6'0" and the rest.
What if I am shorter than 5 feet or taller than 6 feet 6 inches?
The table clamps and tops out. Below 5'0" the adjustment clamps at −1.5 in — a 4'11" golfer plays a 43.5-inch driver. Above 6'6" the table tops out at +2 in — a 7'0" golfer plays a 47-inch driver. Get fitted for the exact set.
How is golf club length measured?
From the sole to the top of the grip. The length is the whole club, grip included — unlike a bolt, where the head is not part of the length. A club that “feels longer than its size” is usually being gripped down the shaft.
What is the difference between this and the ski length chart?
One is golf clubs, the other is skis. This chart covers golf club length — driver to putter, in inches and centimetres, by height. The ski length chart covers ski length by height and skill. Look it up in the ski length chart.
Do women play the same lengths?
No — about 1 inch shorter. A women’s driver is about 44 in against the men’s 45 in, and every club is roughly an inch shorter. This table is the men’s standard — subtract about an inch for a women’s set.
